Classical Cornerstone Home Educators Scope and Sequence
CCHE is a Friday co-op designed to present students with rich content. A place of learning and growing in relationship with Christ and peers. Teachers will provide content in the current cycle for each subject. Science courses can stand alone on Friday or parents may choose to use the text book at home. Our students grades 3 and up may be asked to complete science lap reports outside of class. Our students in grades 3 and up may be asked to complete some workout side of class for History/Geography (additional reading). Our students in grades 3 and up will be asked to complete reading and writing assignments outside of class for Literature/Composition. Our fine arts class will be a stand-alone class on Fridays (children who develop a passion for those arts are encouraged to grow at home).
Cycle 1
History/Geography: Creation to Greeks (146 BC): Use the Old Testament to guild you through history and see how God’s hand affected ancient history. Learn about major events from the Garden of Eden, the Ark, the Tower of babel and move forward to Egypt, Greece and Babylon.
Science: Physical Science: chemistry, physics
Literature/Composition: Read and study an age appropriate living book about a person or event from the time period studied. A minimum of two books will be covered each year. Writing assignments will be designed to build student writing vocabulary and writing technique.
Cycle 2
History/Geography: 1456 BC (Romans) to 1600 Reformation: Learn about the Time of the Romans and learn how they set the stage for the Pax Romana for the central event of all history-the Birth of Christ. Learn about Roman civilization, the middle ages, the renaissance, and the reformation in the context of Christ and the early church.
Science: Earth Science: geology, meteorology, oceanography, astronomy
Literature/Composition: Read and study an age appropriate living book about a person or event from the time period studied. A minimum of two books will be covered each year. Writing assignments will be designed to build student writing vocabulary and writing technique.
Cycle 3
History/Geography: 1000 A.D. (Exploration) to 1850: Explore the new world with Leif Ericson, Christopher Columbus, and others. Discover amazing stories of the U.S. from colonial times to the California gold rush.
Science: Life Science: biology (human anatomy), zoology
Literature/Composition: Read and study an age appropriate living book about a person or event from the time period studied. A minimum of two books will be covered each year. Writing assignments will be designed to build student writing vocabulary and writing technique.
Cycle 4
History/Geography: 1850 to Modern Times: Learn about U.S. and world history. Study about the expansion of the U.S. Study the civil war, WWI, WWII, cold war and who they shaped the world and our country. Learn about the Brave men and women that made our country great.
Science: Life Science: biology (botany), zoology
Literature/Composition: Read and study an age appropriate living book about a person or event from the time period studied. A minimum of two books will be covered each year. Writing assignments will be designed to build student writing vocabulary and writing technique.
